Masks vs. No Masks

If you choose to wear a mask, then wear one.

After everything we've been through in this pandemic, there are people still arguing about wearing a mask in public spaces!

Honestly, who are we to make a judgement in whether or not someone should wear a mask? This is a pandemic that most of us have never experienced in our lifetime. I'm a Millennial. I've never seen anything like this. I was scared at first. Now, not as much. It's becoming a new normal that we may just have to accept for the time being. It's the unknown. People are scared. People are dying. Every day.

Regardless of our personal beliefs, we need to sit back and have some compassion for those who choose to follow the public recommendation to wear a mask.

"But, masks don't work."

Before this pandemic, I never wore a mask, and caught every virus that went around at my previous jobs, schools, etc. I wore a mask for 2 and a half years after March 2020 everywhere I went, and then let my guard down once at a wedding last month. I chose not to wear a mask in church or the town hall. I got sick with the flu when I got home after that weekend. My point being, is that wearing a mask must do something! It's better than absolutely nothing.

At this point in the pandemic, in my personal opinion, whether or not someone is vaccinated against this, is irrelevant. I think our best defense is what the majority have been doing, which is masking up in public places, sanitizing our hands, washing our hands when we get home from being out, and not touching our faces in public, or until our hands are safe enough to do so. Again, just my opinion.

We need to restore some faith in humanity again.

We need to show some compassion towards others.

We need to respect their choice to wear a mask.

I wear my mask to protect the vulnerable and the elderly, even if it may not fully protect me. I have an 82-year-old Nan. The last thing I want to do is make her sick and possibly lose her before her time. I lost my Pop back in September 2020 when we were well into the pandemic already. I'm still grieving, and healing at the same time. We all have our own reasons for wearing a mask.

If you see someone in a public building wearing a mask, leave them be. Go on with your day. The world needs more compassion and acceptance right now, more than anything.
